Willie James Rolling Willie James Rolling, 70, Anderson, died Friday, May 4, 2018, after an extended illness.
Willie was born May 27, 1947, in Montgomery, Alabama.
Around 1950 the family moved to Anderson, Indiana. After graduating from Anderson High School, Willie joined the United States Army.
He served during the Vietnam War and spent part of that time assigned to a unit in Germany. After completing his military service Willie returned home and accepted a job with General Motors in September of 1966 where he was employed for 30 years until he retired.
Willie married the love of his life, Mahala (Nunn) Rolling, on Jan. 29, 1967. To this union three children were born, Tia, Terrance Terrill and Tremayne Icilyn. Working hard, planning ahead and the opportunity for their children to get an education were important to Willie. He was very proud that all three of his children earned college degrees.
In recent years, Willie rededicated his life to "The Lord" at Wallace Temple AME Zion, the church where he grew up. Wallace Temple was founded by his great-uncle, the Rev. Henry Horton, in 1921.
Willie is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mahala; daughter, Tia (William) Smith, Terrance Terrill Rolling and Tremayne Icilyn Rolling; two grandsons, Bryson Rolling and Treon Noah Smith; two granddaughters, LaKeisha Smith and Janay Thompson; one great-grandson, Brytrel Rolling; and special family friend, Stevie Lamp. Willie is also survived by siblings, Pauline Rolling (Dennis) Davis, Alex (Corrine) Rolling, Lula Craver and Dorothy Williamson. He also has many nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins and friends.
Willie was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Pauline (Fuller) Rolling; brothers, Jesse Jr. and James; sisters, Ida Shavers and Eddie Mae Shavers; mother-in-law, Celia Nunn Watson; brothers-in-law, David Nunn, John "Pee Wee" Nunn, and Joseph Watson.
Service will be held noon Saturday at Anderson Zion Baptist Church, 2008 Rev. J.T. Menifee St., and burial at Maplewood Cemetery.
There will be two visitations with the first being held 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Wallace Temple AME Zion Church, 1518 Forkner St., and the second being held from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at Anderson Zion Baptist Church prior to service.
