Arthur "Ed" Ryan Sr., 71, Jonesboro, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born Sept. 26, 1945, to Dolphy and Veneda (Laycock) Ryan. Ed had worked for Front Discharge Mixer, formerly of Alexandria. He retired in 2000 as a sheet metal worker and welder and was a member of Local 20 Sheet Metal Workers Union.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Ed received a great deal of pleasure in the time spent with his kids, grandkids and dogs.
Survivors include his wife, Polly Ryan, whom he married Aug. 19, 1995; two daughters, Stacii Ryan-Wilson of Summitville, and Laura (Shane)Byrd of Alexandria; three sons, Arthur "Eddie" (Carla) Ryan Jr. and Lannie (Brenda) Ryan, all of Summitville, and Jeff (Missi) Ryan of Alexandria; grandchildren, Arthur "Eddie" (Kylie) Ryan III, Cody (Brittney) Ryan, Erin (Jason) Knipp, Alexis (Broc) Johnson, Lana (Adam) Welsh, Zach Settlemyre, Jeremy Shupperd, Levi (Ashley) Ryan, Cade (Courtney) Bodkin, Zack Byrd, Emma Byrd, and Jake Ryan; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Rita Gross of Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Lannie, Ivan, Zeke, Stoney, Don, Ellie and Onda Lee.
Services honoring Ed's legacy and life will take place at 10 a.m. today at Owens-Noffze Funeral Home, 1009 W. Walnut St., Summitville. The Rev. Emery Bailey will officiate. Interment will follow in Forrestville Cemetery, Boone Township.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Grant County Humane Society through the funeral home.
