Carolyn Ann Hirst, 81, of Anderson, passed away on Feb. 22, 2017, at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital.
She was born on Dec. 14, 1935, in Kendallville. Carolyn graduated from Kendallville High School and attended Ball State Teacher's College for two years.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother, a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church where she was very active and had volunteered for Contact Help.
Carolyn is survived by her loving spouse of 57 years, Perry Hirst; children, Kimberly (Hershal) Alvey, William (Terra) Hirst, Susan (Brent) Smith, and Mindy Hirst; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brother, William (Marilyn) Mapes; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Garnet (Ross) Mapes; father, William Mapes; and siblings, Tom Mapes, John Mapes and Marcia Riley.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastor John Hackney officiating. Burial will take place in East Maplewood Cemetery, Anderson.
Carolyn will be remembered for her compassion, love for others, generosity, mischievousness and her sense of humor. Many friends of the family considered her as their Mom and Grandma. The family wishes to thank the hospital staff for their loving care.
