Charles W. "Charlie" Delong Jr., 77, Perkinsville, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017, at his home following an extended illness.
He was born on Oct. 6, 1939, in Anderson, to Charles and Mildred (Wright) Delong.
Charlie attended Anderson Schools and was a member of the Indiana National Guard.
He retired from the former Marsh Supermarket in Fishers and had been a meat cutter at several other local groceries.
Charlie was an avid NASCAR and Green Bay Packers fan. He was a member of the Lapel Eagles Aerie 4313. He enjoyed spending time on his patio and visiting with family and friends there overlooking White River. Charlie also loved gardening and working in the yard.
He is survived by wife, Patricia Ann (Bennett); three children, Robin (husband, Rick) Durham of Anderson, Rick Delong of Anderson, and Regina Vallance of Anderson; six grandchildren, Amber Durham, Sarah Durham, Christopher Durham, Leah Delong, Linzy Delong and Amanda Delong; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Carolyn Sue Kimmerling; one sister-in-law, Teresa Cole; and also Diane Delong.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother who raised him, Ruby (Harless); one brother, George; and four sisters, Betty, Barbara, Shirley, and Ruth.
Services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 N. Main St., Lapel. Burial will be in Perkinsville Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
