Charles's Story

Charles "Charlie" Miller, 80, passed away Friday, April 7, 2017 at I. U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital.
He was born March 22, 1937 in Muncie, to Charles B. and Thelma L. (Barnes) Miller.
Charlie proudly served his country in the United States Army Special Forces and was a Green Beret.
He retired from General Motors having worked as a journeyman machine repairman/toolmaker.
Charlie enjoyed building things.
He is survived by his wife, whom he married October 1, 1960, Eva (Diaz) Miller; sons, Chuck "Junior" Miller, Randy (Cathy) Hamm, and Joe Hamm; daughters, Miki (Alan) Yost and Dorrie (Becca) Starr-Hamm; sisters, Shirlyn Gilliam and Martha Miller; seventeen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Helen Miller; step-father, Kenneth Putterbaugh; brothers, Gary Raines and Donald Miller.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to I.U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital Cancer Center, all of the nurses at I.U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital and Dr. Weinstein, Dr. Spahr and Dr. William Cassel for their excellent care and compassion during Charlie's illness.
Services 1 p.m. Wednesday at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, with Pastor Jeff Veatch officiating.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at the funeral home from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Entombment will take place at Elm Ridge Memorial Park where military honors will be conducted.
