Charles's Story

Charles A. Nowlin, 91, passed away Jan. 18, 2017, at Rawlins House Pendleton.
He was born Aug. 9, 1925, in Anderson.
Charles graduated from Anderson High School.
He retired as a manager for Mace's Grocery Store in Pendleton after 25 years and had worked in the grocery business all his working life.
He was a member of East Lynn Christian Church, where he had served as president, vice president, elder and deacon.
He was also a member of Fellowship Lodge 681, Scottish Rite of Madison and Marion County, Shrine in Madison and Marion County where he made more than 200 trips to the Shriner's Hospitals.
He enjoyed golf, boating, playing cards and the organ, dancing, traveling and wintering in Myrtle Beach for the last 20 years. He also enjoyed Anderson High School and Indiana University basketball and the Indianapolis Colts.
Charles is survived by his loving spouse whom he married July 26, 1965, Annabelle (Funkhouser) Nowlin; children, Michael (Mary Ann) Nowlin, Steve Nowlin, and Penny (Kevin) Gara; stepchildren, Dianna (Jerry) Rysticken, Ronna (Jim) Boone, Christina (Tim) Hodges, Debra (Ben) Clemens, Ramona (Joe) Berry, and S. Jo Gorham; sister, Harriett Cripe; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Josephine Crull Nowlin; father, Charles A. Nowlin Sr.; siblings, Gene Nowlin, Harold Nowlin, Jim Nowlin, Mary Jackson, and Helen McKey; first wife, Betty Nowlin; and daughter, Pamela Sue Nowlin Robertson.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson.
A Masonic service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at funeral home followed by the service officiated by the Rev. Vernon Stover.
Burial will take place in Anderson Memorial Park.
