Charlie Alex Barnes, 77, of Anderson, died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital.
He was born on June 14, 1939, in Malden, Missouri, the son of Raymond and Jewel (Underwood) Barnes. He was employed as a die caster at Delco Remy for 31 years and was a proud UAW member. He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing, gardening, woodworking, and farming.
The true love of his life was playing guitar and playing music with his friends. He was self-taught starting at 6 years, always playing whenever he could but always saying he could never master all that was on that neck. Charlie passed the love of music on to some of his grandkids inspiring them to play music. He and Linda also spent many winters after retirement in Florida playing music with music loving friends. We hope that heaven loves his music as much as we down here did.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Linda (Badgley) Barnes; two children, James (Kristie) Barnes of Arizona and Jolinda Garrison of Anderson; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren with one on the way; two sisters, Ammalene "Jewel" Barnes of Anderson and Margie (George) Bannister of Elwood; brother, Larry (Barb) Barnes of Elwood; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bill; and two young sons.
Funeral services will be held at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at 2 p.m. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
