Ellen M. (Simms) Birkinbine, 92, Alexandria, passed away on Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, at Community Northview Care Center in Anderson following an extended illness.
She was born on June 4, 1924, in Hobbs, to Frank and Lottie (Schwinn) Simms. Ellen has resided in Alexandria since 1945. She had worked at Aladdin industries, formerly of Alexandria.
She was a long time and active member of the Alexandria First Christian Church and the Christian Women's Fellowship of the church. She was a member of the Smilette Club. She enjoyed crocheting and working jigsaw puzzles.
Survivors include two sons, James (Joyce) Birkinbine and Rodney Birkinbine, all of Anderson; two grandchildren, Holly Birkinbine of Anderson, and Derek Birkinbine of Grand Rapids, Mich.; great-granddaughter, Meghan Birkinbine of Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.
Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 56 years, Lloyd Birkinbine in 2001; two sons, Michael Birkinbine and Roger Birkinbine; and siblings, Phyllis Castor, Melvin Simms and Norman Simms.
A service honoring Ellen's life and faith will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday at Alexandria First Christian Church, 215 W. Berry St., with Pastor Julia Bratton officiating. Interment will follow in K of P-IOOF Cemetery in Frankton.
Friends may call at the church after 11 a.m. on Thursday prior to the service.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Christian Church through the funeral home.
