Ervin "Willie" Smith, 79, of Yorktown, passed away, Saturday, March 18, 2017, peacefully in the comfort of his own home with his wife of 40 years by his side, after battling a long illness.
He was born on Feb. 9, 1938, in Anderson, the son Ora and Rosetta (Boyer) Smith.
Willie was employed at Coca-Cola for 38 years prior to his retirement.
He was a man of many words, and once you knew him, you loved him. He never knew a stranger and was the first to give a willing hand to help. He enjoyed Cubs baseball, going to the casino, family cookouts and watching westerns.
Survivors include his wife, Teresa Smith; sons, Randy Smith, Steven (Sherry) Smith, Kenny Smith, Jason (Nellie) Smith, Jeremy (Michelle) Smith and Danny Dedmon; daughters, Christina (Glen) Maggart and Rebekah (Austin Bratton) Dedmon; siblings, Betty Wallace, Shirley Taylor, Wanda Taylor and Eddie Smith; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, cousins, his godchildren, neighbors and friends. He also left behind his four beloved dogs; they were his best friends that never left his side.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ora and Rosetta Smith; his brothers, Alvin, Calvin, Farrell and Francis Smith; his granddaughter, Brandi Smith; and childhood friends.
A celebration of his life will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at his residence.
The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
