She was affectionately known by her family as Flo. Florine was born on June 16,1946, the only child of Betty Burt in Talladega, Alabama.Florine relocated to Birmingham, Alabama after the death of her mother where she was raised by her aunt Beulah McClurkin, aunt Alphie and uncle Jimmy Smith.
She moved to Anderson, in 1979 to be near her aunts and other extended family.
Florine was blessed to be the mother of two sons, Cornell Alexander-Ross and Gatherie Leon Smith. Her sons were her pride and joy.
Florine was employed at Kings System for 15 plus years until her health would not allow her to work any longer.
Florine confessed Christ at an early age and had strong faith that no matter the circumstances God would always make away. She was a member of Sherman Street Church of God and loved being in the House of the Lord with her church family.
Florine was an avid fisherman, an exceptional cook and loved to quilt and sew. As soon as the winter weather would break you could find Flo on the fishing banks with her aunts or with her cousin David Smith. Family was always important to Florine.
Florine will be greatly missed by her son, Gatherie Leon Smith; grandchildren, Terrence Smith, Anthony Smith, Shanice Brisker and Leon Reese; great-grandchildren, A'mirah Weatherford and Leon Reese Jr.; special cousin/brother, Jimmy McClurkin; special cousin, David Smith; special aunt, Marion Ewing; cousin Brenda Hayes, and a host of other close family members.
