Jackie Lee Dilts
Jun 5, 1935 - Jan 15, 2017
Jackie "Jack" Lee Dilts, 81, went to his heavenly home on Jan. 15, 2017, at 6 a.m. at Providence Anderson, a health care facility. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have kept the faith." (2 Timothy 4:7.)
He was born to the late Addison and Nellie (Main) Dilts on June 5, 1935, in Anderson.
Jack was a lifelong member of South Meridian Church of God in Anderson, serving in the Sunday school office for many years. After high school, he served a tour in the U.S. Army in Korea. Upon his return, he began working for Delco Remy and was employed there for 45 years. Jack married Phyllis Sloan on March 9, 1963.
Jack always loved the great outdoors, taking many backpacking and caving trips and introducing many others to the wonders of God's wilderness. He lived a life of adventure, traveling to the western United States many times and as far as Hawaii three times. His liveliness and his awe of creation were present in every conversation he shared with others. He also loved to read and was very gifted musically, able to sing and play several instruments. He volunteered his time helping others and loved spending time with his family.
Jack is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Sloan) Dilts of Anderson; his sons, Keith (Carol) Dilts of Perrysville, Ind., and Paul (Jill Truax) Dilts of Indianapolis; two grandchildren, Rachel and Ethan Dilts of Perrysville, Ind.; his brother-in-law, John Summers; and his nieces and nephews, Melody (Summers) Hull, Meredith Summers, Julie (Brumfield) Franklin, Carol (Dilts) Brewster, Carol, Linda, and Dan Murphy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Addison and Nellie; his siblings, Willis Dilts, Katherine Summers, and Jeanne Brumfield; and nephew, Monte Dean Summers.
A celebration of life honoring Jack will be held at South Meridian Church of God in Anderson, on Saturday, Jan. 28, at 1 p.m., with a memorial service following at 2 p.m. Pastors Ed Hyatt and Dale Landis will be officiating.
