James W. Kane, 89, Summitville, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2017, at Alexandria Care Center following an extended illness.
Jim was born on Feb. 20, 1928, in Alexandria, to James and Mary (Queer)Kane, and has lived in the area for most of his lifetime. He was a graduate of Alexandria High School-Class of 1946.
He served in the United States Army Reserve from 1950 to 1959. Jim retired from Guide Lamp in 1987 after 35 years of employment. He was a member of the United Auto Workers and the Alexandria Varsity A Men's Club. He enjoyed woodworking and was an outdoorsman.
Survivors include his wife, Anna (Acres) Kane, whom he married Sept. 4, 1954; two daughters, Janet (Clayton) Rudy and Jenny (Tim) Hiatt, all of Summitville; six grandchildren, Chad (Abbi) Rudy, Todd (Jodi) Rudy and Christy (Tom) Massey, all of Summitville, Ritchie Rudy of Alexandria, Heather (Shawn) Warner of Bellingham, Wash., and Jason Hiatt of Kemah, Texas; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Myra May Minich of Bedford; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Barbara Kennedy.
Family and friends are invited graveside services honoring Jim's life and legacy at 3 p.m. Saturday at Park View Cemetery in Alexandria. Mike Owens will officiate and interment will follow.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Resident's Activity Fund at the Alexandria Care Center, 1912 S. Park Ave., Alexandria, IN 46001.
