James (The Captain) Wright, 81, passed away July 20, 2017, at his residence in Markleville due to extensive illness. He was born Sept. 8, 1935, in Anderson.
He is survived by his daughter, Pamper Vannoy Wright; his son, Jay Franklin Wright; sister, Wilma Jane Shaul; stepchildren, Dave Fields, Jennifer Davis and Ellyn Hall; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Franklin Wright; mother, Vivian Fay Hilbert Wright; wife. Nina Hatfield Wright; and stepson, Randy Fields.
He was known in the aviation circle as an experienced pilot, flying numerous types of single-engine aircraft, a master of the design and restoring of airplanes as well as a plane owner himself. He enjoyed solving problems and experimenting. A lot of these skills he developed while working at Delco Remy for 40 years. Even after retirement he was constantly looking for new projects to work on, his passion drove him to build and create. He was also a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and the Model A Car Club.
The Wright family will celebrate his life with a viewing at Legacy Funeral Home, Anderson, from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, followed by a gathering at Anderson Airport, from 1 to 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Young Eagle; donations can be mailed to the EAA, attention Young Eagle Program donations, 3000 Poberezny Road, Oshkosh, WI 54902.
