Jay Thomas DeCrastos of Fishers, ran into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at Methodist Hospital of Indianapolis after a sudden illness.
He was born Aug. 7, 1960, in Muncie, and resided most of his life in the Anderson area. His most recent residency was Hamilton Trace of Fishers.
Jay graduated from Madison Heights High School in Anderson in 1979, and was a graduate of Ball State University.
He attended church at Anderson First Church of the Nazarene, Southdale Church of the Nazarene and was visitation pastor at Redeemer Baptist, where he obtained a local ministers license.
Jay volunteered many years at St. John's Hospital in medical records, visited numerous shut-ins in his capacity as visitation pastor and led Bible studies as well as ministered to children in his local church. Jay had an infectious smile and never let his cerebral palsy handicap his love for life. Jay loved basketball, bowling and movies of any kind. During his young adult years, he could be spotted all over Anderson riding the Nifty Lift bus to different events or shopping.
Jay is survived by his brother, Richard A. (Sharilyn) DeCrastos of Fishers; foster sister, Lisa Lutz Woods (Rob)of Yorktown; foster brother, Jeff (Buffy) Lutz, Greenfield; nephews, Richard Jay (Amanda) DeCrastos, New Castle, and the Rev. Landon (Kara) DeCrastos, McCordsville; three very special great-nephews, Josiah, Levi and Daniel DeCrastos; and a special great-niece, Lynae DeCrastos.
Jay is also survived by a special aunt, Doris Mentis of Muncie; special cousin, Donna Harrington of Muncie, along with their children. Also he is survived by a host of many foreign exchange brothers and sisters from all over the world.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Martha DeCrastos; and grandparents, Richard and Lorraine DeCrastos and Arthur and Marian Harthan.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, Anderson.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. following the viewing at the funeral home, with the Revs. Lindell Browning and Landon DeCrastos officiating. Burial will take place in Tomlinson Memorial Cemetery, Muncie.
