John Everitt, 93, of Anderson, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017, at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital following an extended illness.
He was born on Feb. 10, 1923, in Lapel, to Earl and Odessa (Mitchell) Everitt.
John graduated in 1941 from Lapel High School and he was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II.
He worked as a farmer until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church since 1937.
John enjoyed farming, traveling, and spending winters in Venice, Fla.
John is survived by his wife of 33 years, Joan (Wyant) Everitt; three children, Bonnie (husband, Truman) Miller of Lapel, Charlene (husband, J.D.) Hummel of Anderson, and Marshall (wife, Durenda) Everitt of Anderson; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two stepchildren, Bill (wife, Debbie) Wolfe, and Sue (husband, John) Hersberger; five stepgrandchildren; a brother, Robert (wife, Sharon) Everitt of Anderson; and several nieces and nephews including Karen Aynes.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife of 39 years, Marthena "Cotton" Everitt; and a sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Carl Holloway.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 N. Main St., Lapel, with Pastor Dewey Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
