John David Koons, 82, of Chesterfield, died May 3, 2017, at his residence after an extended illness.
John was born July 2, 1934, in Elwood, the son of Howard and Nettie (Spall) Koons. He was a millwright for Delco Remy for more than 30 years and owned Koons Grading.
He was a member of Madison County Shrine Club, Masonic Lodge and Indianapolis Valley of the Scottish Rite.
He is survived by his son, Mark Koons of Chesterfield; two stepchildren, Lance (Dawn) Lower and Linda (Bill) Carter; two sisters, Caroline Petro of Florida and Margaret Idlewine of Elwood; grandchildren, Mark Koons Jr. (fiancée, Angel Smith) of Spiceland, Brandy (Justin) Worley of Anderson, and Katie Koons and John Daniel Koons, both of Middletown; eight great- grandchildren, Grant Beaty, Lily Smith, Draven Smith, Ivy Smith, Cyrus Land, Aurora Burns, Dana Worley and Nikkiha Kennedy; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Donna Koons; second wife, Jackie Day-Koons; two sons, Greg and David Koons; and a sister, Marcella Garmon.
Service will be at noon Wednesday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Ned Clark officiating. Burial will take place in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Elwood.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to Shriner's Children's Hospital.
