Lois Ina (Harris) Shafer, 93, formerly of Anderson, died June 30, 2017 at Colonial Oaks Nursing Home in Marion, Indiana following an extended illness.
Lois was born on Sept. 25, 1923 in Decker, Michigan, the daughter of Williard E. and Edna (O'meara) Harris. She was a 1940 graduate of Cass City High School in Cass City, Michigan, a 1948 graduate of Taylor University and a 1953 graduate of Asbury Theological Seminary. She married Elmer R. Shafer June 25, 1961.
She served as director of Christian Education at First United Methodist Church in Buffalo, NY 1948 through 1951, First United Methodist in Anderson 1953 through 1961 and St. Matthew United Methodist 1981 through 1986. She was active with United Methodist Women, and enjoyed sewing, oil painting, travel and family time. She was a member of the American Sewing Guild and United Federation of Doll Clubs.
She is survived by her son, Steven(Peggy) L. Shafer of Gaston; two grandchildren, Nora L. (Michael) Earhart of Manhattan, KS, and Valerie A. (Robert) Bankson of Gaston: nine great-grandchildren, Reanna and Jessi Shafer, Zachary, Emily and Wyatt Earhart and Annaliese, Kiersten, Christopher and Graham Bankson; great-great-grandchild, Brynnlee Earhart; brother C. Bruce Harris, of Texas; and several nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, Neil A. Shafer; great-grandson, Levi Earhart; and brother- and sister- in- law, Rex and Ruth Harris.
Funeral Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Anderson, with Rev. Corinne Boruff officiating. Burial will follow at Grovelawn Cemetery in Pendleton. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
