Lonnie "Joe" Kirk, 67, passed away Friday, Jan. 27, 2017, at his residence following an extended illness.
Joe was born Sept. 23, 1949, in Anderson to Arthur and Joyce (Chadwick) Kirk. He attended Anderson High School and had lived in Alexandria since 1977. Joe retired in 2002 from a career as an auto body technician. He has been a member of the Alexandria Eagles Lodge #1771 since 1980. Joe enjoyed fishing, The Beatles music, genealogy, American history and playing his guitar and ukulele.
Survivors include his wife, Mary (Zettel) Kirk, married May 1, 1982; son, Jeremy Kirk, Arkansas; grandson, Jacob Kirk, Arkansas; brothers, Tom (Cindy) Kirk and Jack (Linda) Kirk, both of Markleville; mother-in-law, Georgeanna Zettel, Alexandria; sisters-in-law, Jan (Tom) Urban, Rosanna (John) Scholl and Rita Harris (Greg Bristow); and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; son, Shawn Kirk; sister, Nikki Kirk; and his father-in-law, James Zettel.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will take place at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017, in the Owens Funeral Home, 412 North Harrison St., Alexandria. Pastor Jerry O'Neal of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church will officiate. Friends are invited to call on the family after 4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the services.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children's Hospital through the funeral home.
