Madalene Young, 99 of Markleville, passed away Wednesday morning, June 21, 2017, at Glen Oaks Health Campus in New Castle.
She was born June 4, 1918, in New Castle, the daughter of Frank F. and Margaret (Robertson) Solomon.
Madalene was a woman with many traits. She worked for various retails, including U.K. Pottery, J.C. Penney's and Reid's Photography in New Castle. She owned and operated her own beauty shop and upholstery shop. Madalene was very artistic and has been sewing since she was a child and rarely a craft she did not tackle, but in later years her love was quilting and gardening. She was a former member of the Spring Valley Quilt Guild in Pendleton and a member of the East Christian Church of Markleville.
Survivors include son, Michael (Delores) Young; daughter, Kathleen S. (Michael) Doran; four grandchildren, Michael Shawn (Tonya) Young, Shannon D. (Chuck) Neal, Monty Shane (Christy) Young, and Patrick Michael (Karen) Doran; 16 great- grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister, Susie Adams; brother; David Solomon; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Ralph Young; brothers, Wayne and Marvin Solomon; and sister; Nellie Wright.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Condo and Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Kurt Solomon officiating. Burial will follow at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
