Marjorie Nell Schug, 87, of Pendleton, passed peacefully into the Lord's presence Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017.
She was born Sept. 25, 1929, in Lapel, to Arthur and Kathryn (Arnold) Waymire. Marj spent her childhood years in Lapel and Pendleton and graduated from Pendleton High School in 1947. While there she met the love of her life, Jim, a member of the Fighting Irish semi-state team for which Marj was a cheerleader.
She attended Indiana University and Elkhart Medical Secretarial School. She held several secretarial positions including 25 years in the South Madison School System, from which she retired in 1989.
Marj was a faithful and active member of Pendleton First United Methodist Church for over 70 years. She served as church secretary and participated in United Methodist Women, Chancel Choir, and J.O.Y. Choir. She also loved assisting and helping direct the Pendleton Easter Pageant for many years.
Marj loved books and reading and was a board member of the Pendleton Community Library and Friends of the Library. During her board tenure the current library was constructed. She was a longtime member of the Olivian Society.
She and Jim were avid travelers and visited all 50 states including two church mission trips to Alaska. She loved flowers and vegetable gardening, was an excellent cook, and loved hosting family dinners with Jim. She was well-known for her delicious chocolate chip cookies with walnuts. She baked cookies for her, and for Dale Hollow campers, snowmobilers, hungry college students, and many others.
Marj was a woman of great faith and set a loving example for her son, Stephen (Pamela) Schug of Pendleton, daughter, Kathryn (John) Yocum of Indianapolis, and daughter, Patricia (Larry Lehnerz) Schug of Waldport, Ore.
