Patricia A. "Pat" Barber, 90, Alexandria passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2017, in her residence following an extended illness.
She was born on Nov. 9, 1926, in Alexandria to Carl and Ruth (Knopp) Miller. She lived in the Elwood-Alexandria area all of her life and was a graduate of Elwood High School.
Pat had worked at Aladdin and Haynes-Stellite, both formerly of Alexandria. She retired from the Madison County Government Center in 2007 after working in both the Treasurer's and Assessor's offices for 42 years.
She was a member of the Alexandria Eagles Auxiliary, the Aladdin Knights, and she attended the Christian Congregation Church. Pat enjoyed time spent at their Dewart Lake home and working outside in her yard.
Survivors include her husband, Weldon "Jack" Barber, married Feb. 1, 1947; daughter, Jackie (Terry) Thompson, Peru; and grandson, Andy(Ashlyn) Thompson, Westfield. A great-grandson is due to arrive next week. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her stepmother, Goldie Miller.
Services honoring Pat's life and legacy will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday at Owens Funeral Home, 412 N. Harrison St., Alexandria, with the Rev. Fred Burke officiating. Interment will follow in the IOOF Cemetery, Alexandria. Friends may call at the funeral home after 11 a.m. Thursday.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Vermillion Friends Church through the funeral home.
