Phil A. Warfel, 79, Anderson, passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2017, at Community Northview Care Center in Anderson following an extended illness.
He was born on Dec. 4, 1937, in Tipton, to Frank and Gladys (Small) Warfel, and graduated from Jackson Township High School, Class of 1955. He retired from Delco Remy in 1991 after 36 years as a special machine builder.
He was a former member of the Landmark Baptist Church of Anderson. He and Suellen were members of several square dancing clubs. Phil will be well remembered for his coaching days with the Chesterfield Girls Junior and Senior Softball Leagues. He enjoyed woodworking and time spent at the family cabin.
Survivors include his wife, Suellen (Pelfrey) Warfel, whom he married July 3, 1979; son, Tony (Gina) Warfel of Waynesville, Ohio; daughters, Tina Couch and Gina (Ed) Leonard, all of Anderson; stepson, Duncan Ebert of Summitville; stepdaughter, Alisha Ebert (James) Carter of Cedar Hill, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Pauline Lambert; brother, Max "Bud" Warfel; in-laws, Taft and Naomi Pelfrey; and grandson, Darrell Couch II.
Services honoring Phil's life and legacy will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Owens Funeral Home, 412 N. Harrison St., Alexandria, with Pastor Gary Woodring officiating. Entombment will follow in Elm Ridge Cemetery in Muncie.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
