Rev. Dr. James's Story
After an extended illness, James "Jim" Keith Ward, age 82, died Dec. 25, 2016, in Edmond, Okla.
Jim was born on March 13, 1934, in Anderson, to James F. and Ethel A. Wiseman Ward.
Jim grew up in Anderson and graduated from Anderson High School in 1953. He received his bachelor's degree in 1957 from Ball State University, his master's degree in 1961 from Indianapolis Theological Seminary, and was ordained to the ministry in 1962 at Anderson's East Lynn Christian Church where he was active throughout his youth. He went on to receive his doctorate degree in 1983 from Texas Christian University.
He served Disciples of Christ Churches in Indiana, Michigan, Alabama, Alaska, Washington, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Kansas for a total of 43 years.
Jim is survived by his wife, Sharon J. Carter Ward, whom he married on Christmas Day, 1957; They were able to see their 59th anniversary before he was called to be with the Lord on Christmas Day, 2016.
He is also survived by their three children, Eric Ward, Kentucky, Michelle Ward, California, and Annissa Marlow, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Kathryn Ward, and Hannah, Cole and Sophia Marlow.
Jim is also survived by his sister, Ruth A. Burton (husband, Thomas E.), Anderson, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Richard W. Ward (Charlotte) and Ronald J. Ward (Betty).
As per Jim's wishes, cremation and a private memorial service in Edmond, Okla., were chosen.
