Robert E. Hancock Sr., 85, of Anderson, died Jan. 1, 2017, at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital.
He was born March 26, 1931, in Elwood, the son of Frank and Mary (Startsman) Hancock. Robert worked as a utility mechanic for Delco Remy in Anderson for 30 years, retiring in 1979. He attended Elwood schools, and married Nancy E. Burns on March 18, 1949. They shared 58 years of marriage together.
Robert was an avid outdoorsman and hunter, and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association (NRA). He and his family enjoyed extended vacations traveling, camping, and spending time outdoors. After his retirement at age 48, he purchased a property in Colorado which he named the "Rockin' H Ranch."
Robert's family includes son, Frank (Gail) Hancock of Golden, Colo.; sister, Mary Adams of Anderson; brother, William "Bill" Hancock of Tennessee; two grandchildren, Mark (Debra) Hancock and Rhonda (Michael) Dohm; four great-grandchildren, Chandler Hancock, Nicholaus Hancock, Madison Dohm, and Bailey Dohm; brother-in-law, David (Wilma) Burns of Atlanta; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents; wife, Nancy Hancock in 2007; son, Robert Hancock Jr.; grandson, Robert Hancock III; and infant great-grandson, Mark Hancock Jr.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Amos Carmichael. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery in Elwood.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
