Roberta's Story

Text size

Roberta Ann Edson Dyer, 78, went to Heaven on April 13, 2017, from her home in Chesterfield. She was born on Oct. 13, 1938, in Genesee County, Michigan, to Robert and Frances Edson.
Roberta earned her bachelor's degree from Anderson University, then her masters in music from Ball State. She was a school teacher, then worked at Anderson University for 24 years in administration and procurement.
Roberta learned to play the piano and violin at an early age. She played the trumpet in the high school band and sang in the choir. She sang in the AU choir all four years of her study. She enjoyed classical music and flowers. She was very proud to establish the Robert and Frances Edson Endowment Fund, which provides transportation assistance to student teachers going overseas.
Most of all, Roberta loved her family. When she and Dale traveled, it was to see family. They went to Okinawa and Germany when grandchildren were born.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Dale; children, Carol Dyer, Colleen Lyons (Lou), James Dyer (Sang-Eun), Cayla Dyer (Laura) and Joan Williams (Tim); grandchildren, Lauren Markitanov (Demitri,) Lydia Lyons, Sydney Lyons, Iris Dyer, and Isaac Dyer; and great-grandchildren, Thaddeus Markitanov and Pheneus Markitanov.
Preceding Roberta in death are her parents and infant daughter, Sarah Lou.
Services are 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, at East Side Church of God. Visitation is 1 p.m. to service Tuesday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Robert and Frances Edson Endowment Fund at Anderson University.
