On May 6, 2017, Virginia Ellen Howard 98, left our world to join her husband as they continue their marriage in Heaven.
She was born in Progress, Ind., on Nov. 30, 1918, the daughter of Merrill Hugh Totton and Olive Mercer Stiffler Totten. Virginia married Arthur Wilburn Howard, on Oct. 23, 1938, then giving birth to three loving children, Linda Lee Haney (Arthur), Karen Ann Dasher (Randall) and Larry Vaughn Howard (Gail); 11 grandchildren; 20 great- grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She attended Cowan and Daleville schools graduating from Daleville High School in 1936. She attended Amber's Beauty School and sold Avon products for many years. She joined and worked in several church and social organizations through the years. She was a member of Mount Zion Methodist Church until its closing and joined Corinth United Methodist Church and was active for many years.
Virginia was a caring and compassionate lady but could be strong and courageous when faced with trying times such as her husband serving in the Army during World War II and her son in the Army in Vietnam. Virginia would travel with her two small daughters by train when her husband was stationed in the U.S. and at one time lived in a small rented home near the base.
Virginia's family wish to give love and thanks to the wonderful, caring staff of the Morrison Woods Health Care facility which has become a part of our family and have made us feel a part of theirs. A special thanks to Compassus Hospice for the loving care provided our mother.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Ballard and Sons Funeral Home, 8212 S. Walnut St., Daleville. Burial will follow in Sunderland Cemetery, Daleville.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
