Walter Neill Huntzinger, 83, of Anderson, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital following a brief illness.
He was born on Feb. 4, 1933, in Anderson, to Walter H. and Esther (Teeters) Huntzinger.
Neill was graduated in 1951 from Lapel High School and was a U.S. Army veteran.
He owned and operated Star Trucking, and before that, he was employed by the former Delco Remy Division of General Motors in Anderson.
Neill was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Lapel and the Willing Workers Sunday school class. He had been involved with Operation Classroom and had made several mission trips.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elaine (Baxter); children, D'Ahn (husband, Chuck) Ackerman, of Anderson, and Doug (wife, Terrie) Huntzinger, of Lapel; grandchildren, Jonathan Thrasher (fiancee, Hope Williams), Aaron Thrasher, Danielle (husband, Blane) Trinkle and Jake Huntzinger; great-grandchildren, Lucia Thrasher, Makenna Thrasher, and Sawyer Trinkle; and brothers, Warren (wife, Nancy) Huntzinger, of Pendleton, and Ron (wife, Rita) Huntzinger, of Anderson.
Neill was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael Neill; and a brother, Wendell.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 N. Main St., Lapel, with Pastor Dewey Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home.
