William "WC" Blackwell departed this life May 8, 2017, at Community Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Preston, Mississippi, on Sept. 9, 1932, the son of Sam Blackwell and Callie Blackwell-Dixon. In 1954 he married Jennie E. McWilliams. From this union was born Gladys Merlene Weatherly, Stephon (Loretta) Blackwell, Corey Blackwell, Brent (Regina) Blackwell and (niece/daughter) Felta Carter.
He attended Preston, Mississippi, schools and worked 40 years for Container Corporation in Anderson. WC loved to work his vegetable/flower garden and loved animals.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Jennie Blackwell; four brothers, Foree (Betty) Dixon, Ollie (Dorothy) Dixon, Narvie (Jacque) Dixon and Warren Dixon; three sisters, Mandy Bibbs, Mary Ann Dixon and Joann (Joseph) Allensworth; grandchildren, Janna (Lindsay) Brown, Ashley Weatherly, Taylor (Jamal) Adams, Jordon Blackwell, Jules Blackwell, Sydney Blackwell and Samatha Blackwell; four great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ella Tee McWilliams; special family, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Boatman Sr. and son; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his son, Corey Lamont Blackwell; uncles, George Maury, Darphus Maury and Foree Maury; in-laws. Lee and Callie McWilliams; brothers-in-law, Roosevelt McWilliams and Edward McWilliams; and parents Sam Blackwell and Callie Blackwell-Dixon.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at L.C. May Funeral Service. The visitation hours are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Rev. William O'Neal will officiate. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.
