Willie's Story

Willie James Allen, Sr., passed away April 25, 2017, at his residence. He was 68 years old.
Willie was born Feb. 4, 1949, to the late Edward Allen, Sr. and Florida Mae Allen Grayson. He was a native of Birmingham, Alabama, but for the majority of his life, Anderson was his home. In 2007 Willie retired from Guide Lamp Corporation, a Division of General Motors, after 35 years.
Known for his exceptional cooking ability, Willie had a passion for cooking meals for others. He also enjoyed fishing, bowling, gardening and spending time with his family and friends. Another of Willie's favorite pastimes was watching classic Western movies. He was an avid basketball fan. He especially loved the Indiana Pacers.
Willie was a member of the Masonic Lodge - Peerless 32 in Anderson. He attended Celebration Church - Arrow Heights, where he was an active participant on the Usher Board.
Friends and family will remember Willie most for his incredibly kind heart and his willingness to always help anyone in need.
Willie was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings: Maggie Dell Reed, Leroy Allen, Hanoree Allen, Sadie P. Ludley, Dave Allen and Leo Allen.
He is survived by his children, Doris Allen, Cedar Hill, Texas, Willie Allen, Jr., Bloomington, and Thelmeka Allen, Columbus, Georgia.; his grandchildren, Antonio Skinner and Monyae Allen; great-grandchild, Caleah Greer; brothers, Edward (Yolonda) Allen, Jr., Decatur, Alabama, George Allen and David (Candace) Allen, Sr., Anderson; sisters, Barbara J. Allen, Louise Allen, Anderson, Lena (William) Brown, Decatur, Alabama, Loree Williams and Dessie Jackson, Birmingham, Alabama; loving nephews, nieces, cousins, special friend Joseph Love, and a host of others.
The funeral service will be at noon on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, with visitation from 10 a.m. to noon at the Celebration Church - Arrow Heights, 1120 Arrow Ave.
