Amy L. Shelton

Amy L. Shelton passed away Friday, Aug. 9, 2019, at age 82.
She was born in Indianapolis, to Frank and Gladys Christie during the summer of 1937.
Amy attended Danville Community School. As a youth, she enjoyed music and art.
She married Robert, her husband of 61 years, in 1957. Robert's career necessitated several moves across the Midwest, and after extended stops in Kansas and Ohio, Amy and Robert moved to Anderson, in 1975.
With each household move, Amy would reestablish efforts to obtain a teaching degree. She eventually earned a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Cincinnati, and a master's degree in education from Ball State University.
Amy frequently volunteered to teach both youngsters and adults to read. She was also a prodigious letter writer, producing long missives for friends and family on a regular basis.
She was a longtime member of Bethany Christian Church, serving for a period as the church organist. In recent years, she played piano for church services at Primrose Retirement Community. Beyond music, she enjoyed reading, sewing, and gardening.
A lifelong animal lover, Amy found comfort in her final days from her faithful dog, Lucy.
Amy is survived by her sons, Jeff (Jeannine) and Gary (Melissa); three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Gladys Christie; husband, Robert; brother, James.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Aug. 16, 2019, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson.
Services will be held on Friday at the funeral home at 1 p.m. with Pastors Bob Bell and Samuel Jackson officiating. Burial will take place in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Amy's family asks donations be made to the Madison County Humane Society, 2219 Crystal St., Anderson, IN 46012, or Animal Protection League, 613 Dewey St., Anderson, IN 46016.
