Anderson, IN - Barry Alan Gaar, 89, passed away on Jan. 3, 2026, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born on June 30, 1936, in Anderson, the son of Howard and Mildred (Pheanis) Gaar.
Barry graduated from Purdue University, and was a lifetime ATO member and enjoyed being a Purdue Alumni. He was the co-owner of Gaar Nurseries for over 50 years.
He was active with Chesterfield Christian Church and was currently serving as a deacon. He was a member of Kiwanis Club and Optimist Club, enjoyed coaching Little League baseball in Chesterfield, was a member and past president of the Indiana Nursery Association.
Barry was active in the development and management of Millcreek Civic Center, and his most recent project was assisting with the compiling of the history of Chesterfield for the upcoming celebration of America's 250th birthday. Barry enjoyed golfing with his golf buddies, Big Ten Sports, Romeo gatherings, and visits to Walloon Lake in Michigan.
Barry is survived by his wife of 38 years, Wilma; five children, Mitchell (Kathie) Gaar, Diana (Rich) Armstrong, Karen Gaar Shank, Mike (Lora) McFall, David (Shelly) McFall; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Kathy Gaar; and two nieces and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Philip Gaar; son, Danny Gaar; great-great-grandchild; and son of the heart, Larry Crenshaw.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2026, at Chesterfield Christian Church. Burial will follow in Bronnenberg Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Chesterfield Christian Church or Millcreek Civic Center.
