Betty  Shaffer
ANDERSON - Betty J. Shaffer, 94, of Anderson, passed away Friday, Feb. 14, 2020.
She was born June 29, 1925, in Elwood, to the late Adam and Elizabeth (Bertzel) Krebs.
She attended St. Joseph's Elementary School in Elwood and graduated from St. Mary Catholic High School, in Anderson, in 1944. She attended Indiana Business College and became an executive secretary.
Betty was a homemaker raising her family, all the while devoting time to volunteering at St. Mary's School, St. John's Health Center, the Cub Scouts, the Brownies, the Red Cross, and Longfellow Plaza.
She was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church. While attending, Betty formed and conducted two study clubs, St. Theresa the Little Flower of Jesus and Mary Queen of Peace. She sang with the St. Mary's Church Adult Choir for 20 years. She was always devoted to her family, relatives, and friends.
Betty is survived by a son and daughter, Thomas Shaffer and his wife, Rev. Carol Hegland, and Theresa Loucks.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Shaffer, who died Jan. 4, 1983, whom she married on Sept. 6, 1947; a brother, J. Robert Krebs; and a sister, Rosemary Hobbs.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at St. Mary Catholic Church, in Anderson, with Monsignor Robert Sell III officiating. Burial will follow at East Maplewood Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church.
