Alexandria, Indiana - ALEXANDRIA — Camilla C. (Manring) Smith, 82, entered peace and rest on Sunday, June 21, 2026, from IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie following an extended illness.

She was born in Alexandria on Dec. 9, 1943, to Herman and Deloris (Slain) Manring, and was a lifetime Alexandria resident.

Camilla was a graduate of Alexandria High School-Class of 1961. She received both her bachelors and masters degrees from Ball State University. She taught in the Muncie school system, both at Muncie Central High School and Muncie Southside High School. Camilla retired after making a difference in hundreds of young lives for 42 years.

She was a lifetime and active member of the Epworth Unted Methodist Church in rural Alexandria. She was a charter member of the former Alexandria Lioness Club. She was a member of the Psi Iota Xi

Sorority in Muncie. Camilla enjoyed being in her home and surrounded by nature. She enjoyed birdwatching and the beauty and grave of butterflies. She followed Purdue athletics and will be fondly remembered for her famous yeast rolls. Camilla was the #1 fan of her children.

Survivors include three sons, Michael Gerstbauer, Cameron Smith and Phillip Smith; granddaughters, Megan Gerstbauer and Sara (Gerstbauer) Seymour; several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Newton Smith in 2003; three sisters, Ruth (Manring) Miller, Doris Mae (Manring) Kellum and Darlene (Manring) Warfield.

Services honoring Camilla's life, legacy and faith will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, June 26, 2026, at Noffze Funeral Home, 501 N. Harrison St., Alexandira, with Pastor Bruce Bendinger officiating. Interment will follow in Vinson Memorial Cemetery in Summitville.

Camilla's family will receive friends on Thursday, June 25, 2026, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Epworth Unted Methodist Church with envelopes available at the funeral home.
