Charles E. Petty
ALEXANDRIA -- Charles E. Petty, 91, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2019, at Northview Health and Living Center in Anderson following an extended illness.
He was born on Jan. 25, 1928, in Allen County, Kentucky, to Earl and Mary (Oliphant) Petty where he graduated from Allen County High School. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1946 and was honorably discharged as a PFC in 1947. In his early years, he had worked for Aladdin Industries and The Glove Corp., both formerly of Alexandria. Charlie retired from Guide Lamp in 1983 after 33 years of employment.
He was a member of United Auto Workers Local 663. For several years, he was an active and dedicated member of Alexandria Eagles 1771 where he had served as a past secretary and a past president. Charlie was instrumental in helping accomplish the moving of the Eagles Lodge from its former downtown location to its current location. He also was one of the organizers of the Cunningham Little League. He enjoyed camping and was a lover of children.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara (Pike) Petty, married Oct. 14, 2002; sons, Richard (Teresa) Petty, Ocala, Florida, Ronald (Leasa) Petty, Anderson, Philip Petty, Summitville; daughters, Debbie (Tim) Gellinger, Cicero, Pamela (Robert) Wood, Riverview, Florida; brothers, Buell (Sue) Petty, Scottsville, Kentucky, Wayne Petty in Arizona; sister, Dorothy (Joe) Calvert, New Castle; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; four stepdaughters; six stepgrandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; two stepgreat-great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary Thurber Petty; brothers, William, Curtis and Earl Petty; son, Thomas Petty; sister, Frances Kinser.
Services honoring Charlie's life and legacy will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019, at Owens Funeral Home, 412 N. Harrison St., Alexandria, with Pastor Chris Hubler officiating. The Alexandria Eagles Lodge will conduct a memorial service at 2:45 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow in Park View Cemetery in Alexandria. Friends may call at the Owens Funeral Home after 1 p.m. Saturday prior to the service.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association or the Alexandria Eagles Lodge with envelopes available at the funeral home.
Owens Funeral Home is honored to care for Charles and serve the Petty family.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Charlie was good to me when i dated Ronnie. I was fortunate to catch up with him in the past few years through Barb, Bonnie and Linda. Heaven is getting a special angel.
