SELMA — Danny Cox, 69, passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at I.U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Muncie on May 21, 1955, the son of Carl and Margaret (Richmond) Cox, and graduated from Daleville High School in 1974.
Danny married the love of his life, Cindy Cox in 1989.
Danny attended Ivy Tech College and graduated with an associate's degree in HVAC. He worked at Ball State University, starting in dining services and continued to work his way through the ranks. He was chosen for the trainee program and completed a three year program to become an Environmental Control Mechanic. He then completed his associate's degree in 1993 and became the Environmental Control Supervisor. He was asked to be the supervisor of the HVAC department and along with many others, oversaw the installation and completion of the geothermal project. Danny always said he had the best group of employees at Ball State. He retired in May, 2019 after 41 1/2 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Cindy (Hoots) Cox; three brothers, Terry Cox (Barbara), Donnie Cox (Bonnie) and Steve Cox (Paige); brother-in-law, Randy Hoots (Lori); nieces and nephews, Rhonda Ice (Jeff), Robin Johnson (Darrin), Chad Cox, Julia Rost (JR), Steve Cox Jr. (Susie), Ethan Cox (Virginia), JD Petty (Courtney), Travis Petty, Douglas Petty (fiancé, Olivia Gilpin), Tanner Hoots (Danielle) and Collin Hoots; special adopted niece, Kayleigh Ayers; along with several great- and great-great nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by his fur babies, Ziva Sophia and Macy.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Margaret Cox; his grandparents, Dewey and Mildred Richmond, and Luther and Stella Cox; along with his brother, Mike Sizemore.
Danny was a Master Mason and belonged to Anthony Lodge #171 F. & A.M. He was also a member of Murat Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis in the 32nd degree. Other memberships included Selma American Legion Post 437. Danny served on the Selma Town Council for ten years and served on the Liberty Regional Waste District Board.
Services will be 10 a.m. on Friday, April 4, 2025, at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel with Pastor Dennis Trimble officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Cemetery.
Masonic Rites will be conducted at 8 p.m. on Thursday at the mortuary.
Family and friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. on Thursday at the mortuary.

Cindy would like to thank the Liberty Township Fire Department, the Paramedics and IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital for the kindness and care they gave Danny.

Plant a tree: How does it work

When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.

An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.

After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.

Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.

Planting will take place in Spring or Summer of the same year.

June - December

Planting will take place in Spring of the following year.
