Markleville, Indiana - David Melvin Smith, 74, of Markleville, passed away on June 29, 2025, at home.

He was born on March 31, 1951, in Anderson, and resided most of his life in Markleville.

David graduated from Markleville High School 1969 and later received his bachelor's degree from Anderson University.

He retired from General Motors after working 39 years as a skilled tradesman.

In his free time, David enjoyed fishing and hunting with his dogs, Heidi, Gretchen and Maggie.

David is survived by his loving spouse of 55 years, Susan Smith, whom he married Aug. 1, 1969; three children, Kevin Smith, Leigh Ann (Todd) Vargo, and Diane (Stanley) Arthur; four grandchildren, Bryce Smith, Jasla Vargo, Reagan Arthur and Quinton Arthur; great-granddaughter, Quinn Smith; sister, Brenda Hull; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Florine and Melvin Smith; and his son, Adam Smith.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at the Community Room at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, Anderson. Cremation will take place.
