Lapel, IN - Donetta Harmon, age 91, passed away peacefully at home in Lapel, on April 27, 2026.

Donetta was born Dec. 16, 1934, in Anderson, to Ward and Lola Adams. She lived in Anderson until moving to Lapel in 1999. She attended Anderson High School and as a young woman worked at J.C. Penney and Citizens Bank.

Donetta excelled as a wife, mother, and homemaker and was an accomplished cook, baker, and sweets-maker. Her chocolate fudge and angel food cake were two of many family favorites.

She attended Mounds Baptist Church in Anderson all of her adult life until her health prevented her from attending. She was an avid bowler in the Wednesday Morning Women's Bowling League at Coopers Bowling Alley for many years. She and her husband loved square dancing with the Madison County Promenaders and other square dance clubs, as well as ballroom dancing at the Anderson Elks and the Alexandria Eagles, for many, many years.

She is survived by her husband, Robert; daughter, Deetta (Christopher) Steinmetz of Fishers; four grandchildren, Robert N. Harmon, Leah (Bob) Harmon Miller, Alec Steinmetz, and Amelia Steinmetz; and five great-grandchildren, Demetrius Ellett, Julian Iglesias, Sonney Harmon, Sofiaelsa Harmon, and Amanda Harmon; brother, James Adams; sister-in-law, Phyllis (Kenny) McNew; many nieces and nephews; and best friend of over six decades, Becky Verbryck.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her son, Robert W. Harmon; father-in-law, Russell Harmon; mother-in-law, Pauline Harmon; brother-in-law, Russell Harmon Jr.; sisters-in-law, Dixie Adams and Babette Harmon; and a special cousin, Helen Smith, who was like a sister to her.

Donetta's family extends heartfelt appreciation to the caregivers of St. Croix Hospice, especially Tee and Shannon. Your kindness touched us deeply.
