Lafayette, Indiana - Eileen Clevenger Abel, 99, of Lafayette, formely of Anderson, passed away on July 6, 2026, at Aster Place Assisted Living of Lafayette.

She was born on Feb. 2, 1927, in Huyton, England, to parents James and Ellen Ward Oliver. Eileen grew up in England, where she met Gene Clevenger, during World War II. They were married in 1947 and moved to Muncie, Indiana, where she earned her citizenship in 1952. She moved to Anderson to be closer with her family after the passing of her husband in 1981.

Eileen was a member of the War Bride Association, Brownie Leader, Girl Scout Leader, guardian for Job's Daughters, The Order of the Eastern Star, as well as the Yorktown Junior Woman's Club.

She was a member of Mounds Baptist Church in Anderson, Indiana, where she reconnected with Thomas Abel, former coworker at Sears Roebuck. They were married in 1995 until his passing in 2013.

Survivors include her daughter, Brenda (Dwight) Dunham; stepchildren, Doug Abel and David Abel; grandchildren, Aaron (Sheri) Dunham and Renee Dunham; stepgrandchildren, Chelsey (Trevor), Skyler, Shelly, Jennifer, and Allison; and great-grandchildren, Nolan and Isla.

Eileen was preceded in death by her first husband, Gene Thomas Clevenger, and Thomas Abel; daughter, Carol Clevenger; brother, Donald Oliver; sisters, Frances, Rita, and Audrey; nephew, Keith Baines; and her parents.

Friends and family may visit from 2 p.m. until the time of service at 4 p.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson.

Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Cemetery, Muncie, at a later date.
