Ingalls, IN - Elmer Dobson, 93, of Ingalls, passed away in Fishers on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2025.
He was born April 5, 1932, in Vest, Kentucky, to Adam and Mary (Terry) Dobson. On Sept. 3, 1955, in Rensselaer, he married Eddath Combs, and they recently celebrated 70 years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, Eddath, he is survived by his children, Karen Collins of Fortville, Merle (Becky) Dobson of McCordsville, Regina (Mark) Merritt of Fortville, and Tonya (Don) Slovarp of Billings, Montana; grandchildren, Jessica (Larry) Crouch, Adam Dobson, Amie (Jeremy) Irwin, Andrea (Pete) Dejanovich, Tanner Merritt, Cody Merritt, Abbey Slovarp, and Hadley Slovarp; great-grandchildren, Ethan Maggart, Brooklyn Maggart, PJ Dejanovich, and Ireland Irwin; and siblings, Retha Walker, Sophia Foster, Sid (Jackie) Dobson, Phyllis (Kerby) Wireman, Earl (Sally) Dobson, and Anita (Ron) Brunton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Adam and Mary Dobson; siblings, Alma Sizemore, Barter Dobson, Ora Manns, Helen Barnett, Wilson Dobson, and Delmer Dobson; and son-in-law, Gary Collins.
A veteran of the Korean War, Elmer proudly served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. He was stationed in Europe, where he drove a semi-truck transporting military supplies across France, Germany and Belgium. He worked for US Steel, Ford Motor Company, Nicholson File Co, and Warner Gear before opening his own furniture and appliance business in Anderson in 1980. He retired from the furniture business in 1996.
Elmer was a proud family man, and a dedicated jokester who delighted in sharing his material with his children and grandchildren at every opportunity. He enjoyed playing Bluegrass music and was an avid hunter and fisherman for most of his life.
He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 391 in Fortville, and in 2005 he was commemorated by the Indiana House of Representatives for his service during the Korean War.
Visitation will be held on Monday, Dec. 8, 2025, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 W 53rd St., Anderson.
Services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home with additional visitation one hour prior to the service.
Burial will take place in Gravel Lawn Cemetery, Fortville.
