Forest E. McMahan
Forest E. "Frosty" McMahan, 97, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020, at Alexandria Care Center following an extended illness.
He was born March 24, 1922, in Alexandria to John and Olive (Grimm) McMahan. Frosty was a graduate of 1940 graduate of Alexandria High School and served in the United States Navy during World War II. He farmed in the Alexandria area for 75 years.
He was an avid reader and enjoyed watching Purdue Boilermaker basketball. He was very involved in 4-H and was known for raising club lambs for 4-H members. However, his greatest pleasure was the time he spent with his beloved wife Katie for 71 years.
He is survived by his wife, Katie (Butler) McMahan; daughter, Sharon (Thomas) Spreen of Alexandria; sister, Delores Swaim of Elwood; grandsons, John Forest Spreen of Gainesville, Florida, and Thomas L. (Katie) Spreen of Hyattsville, Maryland; nieces, Karen (Rick) Autrey of Elwood, and Patty (Bill) Compton of Arcadia; nephews, Kent Swaim, Murry Owen and Monty Owen, all of Elwood, and Larry Owen DVM of Anderson; and sister-in-law, Astrea Butler of Elwood.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Isabelle (Lawrence) Shinabery; brother, Loren McMahan; and nephew, Keith McMahan.
Services honoring Frosty's life and legacy will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, 2020, at Owens Funeral Home, 412 N. Harrison St., Alexandria. Interment with military honors accorded by the United States Navy will follow in Park View Cemetery in Alexandria.
The family will receive friends after 11 a.m. Thursday prior to the service.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Madison County 4-H Association through the funeral home.
