Frank Charles Abplanalp Jr., 85, lifelong resident of Elwood, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2018, at Prairie Lakes Health Care in Noblesville.

Frank was born in Elwood on Sept. 27,1932, to Frank Charles Abplanalp Sr. and Emma (McClure) Abplanalp. On Jan. 16, 1953, he married his best friend, soulmate and love of his life Phyllis Jean (McCorkle) Abplanalp. Frank and Phyllis shared 64 years of marriage together before she passed away Jan. 20, 2017.

Frank was drafted and served in the Korean War. He proudly served his country in the Army from 1952 to 1954. After returning, Frank worked for General Motors in management for 37 years and then retired. After retirement he began to find himself a bit bored and worked several merchandising jobs for R.J. Reynolds, Nabisco and Kool-Aid delivering molds for local tool and die shops.

Frank was a longtime member of the Masons and was an active and current member of the Elks Lodge in Elwood. Frank's passions were traveling, NASCAR racing, watching basketball or really any sport, reading, listening to country music and traveling to Naples, Florida, where he and his late wife, Phyllis, spent their winters.

He was a faithful member of East Main Christian Church and Naples Community Church.

Frank is survived by his daughters, Carolyn (Pat Masters) Starns and Kimberly (Dennis) Sitton; grandchildren, Zachery (Amanda) Mock, Jason Ingram, Alex Ingram, Andrea (Taylor) Valentine, McKenzie Masters, Deanne (Jim) Caudill, and Danny Sitton; great-grandchildren, Caitlyn Valentine, CJ Caudill, Oliva and Luke Mattix, and Michael and Madison Sitton.

Frank was preceded by his parents; and brother, Leroy (Edith) Abplanalp.

Funeral services celebrating Frank's life will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Dunnichay Funeral Home, Elwood, with the Rev. Rodger Gardner officiating. Entombment will follow in Elwood Mausoleum with full military honors conducted by the U.S. Army and the Elwood VFW American Honor Guard.

Visitation for family & friends will be Friday, April 13, 2018, from 4 to 8 p.m. The Elks will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the East Main Christian Church or hospice of your choice.
