Anderson, Indiana - Gary M. Welborn, 82, passed away unexpectedly at Community Hospital Anderson on Sept. 3, 2025.

Gary was born in Elwood on Aug. 10, 1943, to George and Gertrude Welborn.

Gary was a farm boy and loved everything related to farming. He graduated from Frankton High School in 1961 and entered the workforce at Delco Remy in 1963. He was a punch press operator and die setter in Plant 3 for his entire career, retiring in 1998.

After working at Delco, he worked for the Anderson Street Department in their maintenance department for 12 years. He never met a job he didn't like and was always meticulous in his work. Gary was an accomplished woodworker and took pride in all of his projects.

He was happiest when gathered at his home and surrounded by his wife and daughters, who will always be known as "the girls." He created many special bonds by sharing stories at his shop door with all friends who happened to pull in the driveway. Gary was also a faithful member of the Florida Station Church of God.

In February 1963, Gary married Sharon Leach, and they shared 62 1/2 years together.

They have three beautiful daughters and three wonderful sons-in-law, Rhonda (Bill) Osborne, Laura (Kyle) Small, and Brenda (John) Creason; three grandsons, Joshua, Clay (Nicole), and Grant; and one great-grandson, Wyatt.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, George and Gertrude Welborn.

Gary now rests in peace, leaving behind a rich legacy of love, courage, and dedication.

Visitation will be held for Gary on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Harper & Dunnichay Funeral Home, 305 E. Sigler St., Frankton.

The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the same venue with Pastor's Jerry Hilligoss and Doug Doan officiating. Interment will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery Mausoleum.
