George E. Bogue
ALEXANDRIA [mdash] George E. "Gene" Bogue, 92, passed away on Friday, Jan. 17, 2020, at Summit Health and Living Center in Summitville following an extended illness.
He was born in Tipton County to George F. and Goldie (Ray) Bogue, and has lived in the Alexandria area since 1951. Gene attended Windfall Schools and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1945. He was honorably discharged in 1949. Gene retired from Delco Remy in 1985 after 35 years of employment.
He was a member of the Killbuck Retirees and UAW Local 662. Gene was a longtime and active member of the Alexandria First Baptist Church and served in many church offices. He founded the SALT Society (Senior Adults Living Together) of the church and started many senior exercise programs. He was always willing to make home visits, especially to senior shut-ins. Gene was an avid Bible reader and teacher. He received the Alexandria Good Samaritan award and was a driver for Meals on Wheels for several years. Gene was also a beloved staff member of Owens Memorial Services and worked as a funeral assistant for several years. He and Jeanette enjoyed their Friday night euchre club. Gene was gifted with a servant heart and reflected the love of his Lord and Savior to all with whom he crossed paths.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette (Legg) Bogue-married June 30, 1950; daughter-Kathleen (Ronald) Ukstins-Delphi; son-Larry, (Deborah) Bogue-Colorado Springs, Colorado; four grandchildren-Brad Ukstins, Sarah (Steve) Cherry, Audrey Bogue, Andrew Bogue; two great-grandchildren-Taylor Cherry and Cassandra Cherry; sister-Sue Lewis-Alexandria; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-Jim Bogue; sisters-Marion Richard, Wanda Johnson Altherr and Berniece Chambers; great-grandson-Ethan Cherry.
Services honoring Gene's life, legacy and faith will take place at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, 2020, at the Alexandria First Baptist Church, 2107 S. Park Ave., with Pastor Michael Deutsch officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the IOOF Cemetery, Alexandria.
The family will receive friends at the Alexandria First Baptist Church after 12 noon on Monday prior to the service.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alexandria First Baptist Church with envelopes available at the services.
The family would like to extended their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff and caregivers at Summit Health and Living for the exceptional care they have given Gene and his family.
