Anderson, IN - With deep love and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Harold E. Hitchcock, 86, of Anderson, Indiana, who left this world peacefully on Nov. 20, 2025, at home with family.
Born Aug. 17, 1939, in Hope, Indiana, he grew up in Anderson, graduating from Anderson High School in 1957. Serving our country four years in the Army's Signal Corps, he began his passion for travel, visiting countries throughout Europe. While stationed in Germany he met Gabriele Lindner, and fell in love.
Returning home to Anderson and marrying his love of 63 years, he began his 33-year career with AT&T, installing and updating telephone equipment throughout Indiana as well as many places throughout the United States.
A dedicated father, husband, and friend to many, Harold lived a life marked by hard work, devotion to family, and a fierce loyalty to those he loved.
He enjoyed years of fishing trips, bowling, and attending festivals of music, antique tractors and steam engines. He continued his desire for travel, taking many vacations throughout the United States with his family in tow. A life long member of ARRL, Madison County Amateur Radio Club, Chief Anderson Radio Club, as well as volunteering for Anderson emergency management. He was a hunter, loved trees, splitting wood, spending time outdoors with his extended family, as well as being an expert antenna builder and electronic tinkerer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Frances Hitchcock. Remaining to remember his generous full life are his wife, Gabriele; sons, Eric (Tammy) and Michael (Julie); brother, David; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several extended cousins.
Services and interment were held Nov. 24, in Hope, Indiana.
