Jacob Matthew Potter (Jake) Obituary

Yorktown, IN - Jacob Matthew Potter, known to all who loved him as Jake, was born on September 15, 1987, in Danville, IL. Jake lived a vibrant life until his passing on June 11, 2026, at the age of 38. His life was filled with love, kindness, and a deep loyalty to his family and friends.

His adventurous spirit shined through in his love for the outdoors, where he enjoyed hiking, camping, fishing and biking.

Jake honorably served in the Army National Guard as a Military Police Officer, including deployment to support Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Jake's heart belonged to his wife, Ivy and their son Wade. Ivy was his soulmate and very best friend for 17 short years. Their mornings sipping coffee and long walks were his daily favorites but traveling -especially to Colorado- was the adventures he lived for. His 8 year old son, Wade was his greatest accomplishment. Jake was the happiest when he was splashing in the pool, building forts, playing nerf guns, and doing just about anything with Wade. The three of them were inseparable.

Over the last 9 years, Jake worked hard building his business Potter's Tree Service and he loved and cherished all the relationships he built along the way.

He loved his whole family so deeply and any time he spent with his parents, brothers, and closest friends were always his favorite times. Every person he met, left better than they came and his infectious smile could never be forgotten.

Jake is survived by his wife Ivy and their son Wade (8); his parents, John and Shelley Potter; his brothers, Eric (Kensie Jarrell) Potter and Jesse (Emily) Potter; his mother-in-law, Chasey Howells, and father-in-law, Ivan (Jenny Clayton) Howells. He also leaves behind his grandmother, Shirley Sanders, grandfather, Steve Rodecap, his in-laws, Evan (Hali) Howells, Chase (Anna) Howells, and Eden (Casey Smalley) Howells and lots of very special friends including Braden Clevenger, Aaron Ricker, Richard Howells, and John Bustos.

Jake was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bill Sanders and Dean and Betty Potter.
