James Paul Gillespie Obituary

Anderson, Indiana - James Paul Gillespie, 75, of Anderson, Indiana, passed away on July 22, 2025, at Community Heart and Vascular Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born on Oct. 27, 1949, in Anderson, to Paul James and Mary Eloise Gillespie, Jim spent his childhood in his hometown, where he enjoyed playing Babe Ruth Little League baseball. He graduated from Anderson High School in 1968.

After high school, Jim served his country in the United States Army, completing a tour in Vietnam from 1968 to 1971. Upon returning home, he began his career with the Anderson Fire Department, where he faithfully served the community at several stations until his retirement in 2006.

In 1975, Jim married the love of his life, Martha "Marty" Jones. Together, they built a life rooted in hard work and dedication, including running The Fireplace and Gas Center for 46 years.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Marty; his son, Jason (Teresa) Gillespie; and two grandchildren he adored, Alex and Charlotte.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Mary Gillespie.

Memorial contributions may be made to Anderson Firefighters Local 1262 charity fund, 44 W. Fifth St., Anderson, IN 46016.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 5, 2025, at Anderson Memorial Park.
