Anderson, IN - James L. "Jim" Janes, 87, of Anderson passed away on Jan. 21, 2026, at Ascension St. Vincent Anderson following a sudden illness.
He was born on Aug. 13, 1938, in Burkesville, Kentucky, to the late Roy Enes and Flossie May (York) Janes.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He worked for the Madison County Highway Department and was the street commissioner. He retired in 2019 after working for more than 30 years.
He founded the Roosevelt Kennedy Club in 1985. He was a lifelong democrat and was very involved with local politics. He enjoyed calling in every weekend to Kevin Smith Reports. He loved collecting President John F. Kennedy items. He was a strong ally of the LGBTQ community. He loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Pamela (Morgan) Janes of Anderson; son, James L. (Joiceann) Janes of Alexandria; his favorite person on Earth his grandchild, Harper "Austin" Janes; two brothers, Bill (Geanita) Janes of Chesterfield, and Donald Janes of Burkesville, Kentucky; sister, Nina Jo McIntyre of Anderson; stepdaughter, Tammy Butler of Lafayette; several stepgrandchildren, step great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepson, Jerry Brown; and brother, Dale Janes.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2026, at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Ned Clark officiating. The burial will follow at East Maplewood Cemetery with military rites.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
