Anderson, IN - Janice D. Dean (née Bohne), 89, of Anderson, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2026, surrounded by her cherished daughters.

On July 15, 1936, Janice and brother, James, were born to Forrest and Ethel Bohne (Tuttle). Janice was a graduate of Anderson High School, Class of 1954 and married her high school sweetheart, Richard Dean, on Dec. 11, 1955. Janice proudly earned degrees from Hanover College and Ball State University.

Janice was devoted to the children of Anderson. From working as a school teacher at 10th Street Elementary, Hazelwood Elementary, Shadeland Elementary, Killbuck Elementary, College Corner Elementary, and North Anderson Elementary in her 37 year career with Anderson Community Schools, to coaching youth basketball, to organizing summer activities, Janice dedicated her life to helping children grow and feel supported.

Janice was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. She will be remembered as a strong-willed (or ornery), wise, supportive and caring presence, who was always ready for a hand of cards, a shopping trip, or craft. She loved gathering with family and friends to walk, play cards, bake, and work on quilting projects. Her family will forever cherish the many intricate quilts she made. Janice had a childlike joy for beautiful things - clothes, jewelry, collectibles, antiques - and passes on her love of shopping to all of the women in her life.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Forrest and Ethel Bohne; sister, Marilyn Skaggs; twin brother, James Bohne; husband, Richard Dean; son, Rodney Dean; aunts and uncles; son-in-law, John Thar; and many cherished dogs.

Her family is comforted in knowing that Janice has now been embraced by these beloved family members and her twin brother, Jim, whom she has dearly missed for 73 years.

Janice is survived by her daughters, Deanna (David) Dean-Webster, and Cynthia Dean; grandchildren, Reginald Badeaux, Rachel (Bradley) Webster, and Noah (Lindsey) Gold; and great-grandchildren, Mollie Badeaux, Augustus Badeaux, Edward Dean Lohmeier, Bridget Bohne Webster, and Oliver James Gold.

A visitation for Janice and her son, Rodney, will be held Feb. 5, 2026, beginning at 12:30 p.m. at Bozell Funeral Homes and Crematory-Brown-Butz-Diedring Chapel, 515 E 53rd St., Anderson.

A Celebration of Life will begin at 1:30 p.m. followed by a procession to Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
