Joan (Tomlinson) Stohler, 77, passed away on Sunday morning, Jan. 30, 2022, at her home.
She was born Sept. 1, 1944, in Alexandria, the daughter of Robert H. and Martha (Danforth) Tomlinson, and graduated from Highland High School in Anderson in 1963. On July 2, 1966, in Anderson, she married Jimmie "Jim" Stohler.
Joan worked with Singer Sewing Machine and later opened The Singer Sewing Machine Store in the Muncie Mall in 1970 when the mall opened. In 1976, she was employed with MAB Paint Store for 21 years and then worked for Lowes for another 18 years until her retirement in 2014. She was affectionately known as "the paint lady".
She was a den leader at Forest Park Den #51, was active with the Washington Street Festival and the Southside Band Booster Club and was a member and officer with the Muncie Home Builders for 20 plus years.
Along with her husband Jim, she was a very active member of the Elks and with all their activities, especially the Elks Follies. Joan was always dressed to the 9's and along with her companion "Mr. Bill", loved to travel, go on cruises, spend time at Lake Webster and Siesta Key, Florida.
Surviving are one son, Kent D. Stohler (wife, Jill); two grandchildren, Kaleigh Stohler and Kendall Stohler; 10 stepgrandchildren and 11 stepgreat-grandchildren; three stepchildren, Teresa Knight (husband, Paul), Jimmie Dean Stohler and Devona Cook (husband, Chris); special companion, "Mr. Bill" Shroyer; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 43 years, Jim Stohler in 2009; special aunt and uncle, Herb and Charlotte Siler; two brothers, George Robert Tomlinson and Roger Charles Tomlinson; and one stepson, Randy Stohler.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022, at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Mount Pleasant Chapel, 7901 W. Isanogel Road, Muncie. Burial will be at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Family and friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Mount Pleasant Chapel, 7901 W. Isanogel Road, Muncie, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022.
