John William Achenbach Obituary

John William Achenbach Jr., 62, of Stockbridge, Ga., passed away Oct. 18, 2012. He was born in Muncie, Ind., to the late John William Sr. and Buryl Pheanis Achenbach. He grew up in Anderson, Ind., where he graduated from Highland High School Class of 1968. John served his country in the United States Army 101st Airborne during Vietnam and attended Vincennes University. He was a farmer and equine enthusiast. He was involved in youth sports as a coach and was a scout leader for many years. He volunteered in community events including Habitat for Humanity and mentoring boys. He enjoyed woodworking and was a car man. He also enjoyed NASCAR, the Braves and the Falcons and was an avid Western movie fan. Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Nan Achenbach of Stockbridge; daughter, Amy Achenbach of McDonough; son, John "J.B." Achenbach of Stockbridge; granddaughter, Julia Cabe; sisters, Tammara (Jim) Melton of Cullman, Ala., Rennae Clendenin of Middletown, Ind., and Dana Waugh of Bettendorf, Iowa; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Andrew (Mary) Foley of Columbus, Ohio, Michael (Tami) Foley of Lima, Ohio, Charles T. Foley of Springfield, Ohio, and Dawn Foley of Stockbridge; seven nieces and nephews; 12 great-nieces and nephews; and one great-great-nephew. Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. Monday in the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with Andrew Foley officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
